An identity shaped by the energy of live conversation. Threads finds its own voice.

Context

Meta came to us at a pivotal moment for Threads. The platform had evolved beyond its launch identity and needed to establish itself as more than an extension of Instagram. While the existing wordmark borrowed heavily from Instagram Sans, it lacked the distinctiveness to stand confidently on its own. At the same time, public conversation was becoming faster, more participatory and increasingly shaped by live cultural momentum. The opportunity was to create a wordmark that could embody that immediacy while giving Threads a scalable identity across product, campaigns and future brand systems.

Unlock

The brief asked for a standalone wordmark and glyph, but the real challenge was defining how live public conversation should feel in typographic form. Conversation on Threads moves through emphasis, reactions and momentum rather than polished publishing. The strategic unlock was the Trending Chisel: a construction principle inspired by chisel-tip markers and the behaviour of highlighting what matters now. Directional cuts and controlled contrast translate cultural immediacy directly into the structure of the logotype.

Create

The identity behaves, not just exists. Chisel-inspired cuts bring emphasis and direction into the letterforms, balancing precision with human gesture. It avoids both harsh angularity and surface-level personality, instead creating a controlled, forward energy that feels immediate and tactile. The result is a wordmark that separates Threads from Instagram, scales across product and culture, and still feels native within the Meta ecosystem.

Become

The wordmark sets the foundation for a broader visual system built on rhythm, emphasis and cultural movement. In product, it stays clear and functional. In campaigns and live moments, the chisel logic becomes more expressive through motion, typography and graphic emphasis. The system is designed to flex across sport, music and entertainment while maintaining a recognisable core, rooted in immediacy, participation and what’s happening now.

Unmistakably Threads

Threads no longer appears as a neutral social platform or an inherited Instagram product. The identity gives the brand a visual behaviour tied directly to how conversation moves through culture: fast, directional and constantly evolving. While competitors rely on passive minimalism or polished corporate neutrality, Threads signals active participation in what is happening now. The Trending Chisel transforms cultural momentum into form, creating a wordmark that feels immediate, human and unmistakably built for live perspective.
